Nicoderm patches come in two different strengths and the one you choose depends on how many cigarettes a day you smoke. Those who smoke more than 10 cigarettes a day should begin by using the 21 mg strength patch. If you smoke fewer than 10 a day, use the 14 mg strength.

Always check with your doctor before beginning to use the Nicoderm patch. Following are instructions for use of the patch:

• Before applying the patch, make sure that the skin is not oily, irritated, or damaged.
• The patch should be placed on a clean and hairless part of either the upper arm or the hip. Ensure that it is stuck firmly to the area.
• Replace the patch with a new one at the same time every day.
• Never wear more than one patch at a time.
• If you miss a dose of Nicoderm, apply one as soon as possible unless it is almost time for the next dose. Then skip the missed dose.
