Generic Drug for Flovent Diskus: Fluticasone
Directions for use/dosage
Dosage will vary according to the patient's individual needs and they should always ensure that they take the correct dose, as specified by their physician. Each Diskus contains 60 doses and there is an indicator at the top of the diskus, which states how many doses remain.
Taking a dose is very easy; the patient must simply open the diskus, click it and then inhale. The diskus must be kept flat and level during this process. Once the dose has been taken, the patient should rinse their mouth with water and spit it out; they must not swallow the water.
Patients should not buy Canadian Flovent Diskus to treat acute attacks of asthma, as it will not be effective. The medication is designed to be used as a long-term preventative and it can take between one and two weeks for it to start working. Patients should continue to take Flovent as directed by their physician, even if they begin to feel better and do not think they need it. Suddenly stopping taking Flovent can cause side effects and may make the patient's asthma worse.
Side effects
The most common side effects are nausea and vomiting, headaches, throat irritation, a cold, fever and upper respiratory tract infection. Patients may experience some serious side effects while taking Flovent. These may include fungal infections of the throat and mouth; decreased adrenal function, which can lead to tiredness, nausea, vomiting, low blood pressure, weakness and possibly even death; weakened immune system; slow growth in children; lower bone mineral density; allergic reaction; increased wheezing and eye problems, such as cataracts.
Precautions
Flovent Diskus should not be used to treat children under the age of four years or those who are severely allergic to milk proteins or fluticasone propionate. Before using the inhaler, patients should tell their physician if they are pregnant or breastfeeding, have liver problems, have been exposed to measles or chickenpox or have any other medical conditions. In addition, they should tell their physician about any other medication they are taking, as Flovent can interact with a range of drugs, including other corticosteroid medicines, anti-viral medicines and antifungal medicines such as ketoconazole, to produce undesirable side effects
Additional information
Flovent diskus must be kept in a dry place. It should never be washed or allowed to get wet.
